Do I need to use ad or #ad on my post?

Social Tip posts should contain ‘Ad’. If possible please amend your post to include 'Ad' and please ensure you include this going forward on your social tip posts.

Social Tip is doing something completely new. We exist so far outside the traditional influencer model that the standard rules don’t really fit what we do. But with some rule changes coming up and our US launch on the horizon, we’ve decided to start using Ad on all Social Tip posts. You’ll still reference @socialtiphq and the brand’s handle, too. The use of ‘Ad’ isn’t perfect, but it’s what the authorities generally prefer here. This is a small change for us, but it shows the world how transparent and future-proof our community is. Properly placed disclosures like 'Ad' ensure transparency between content creators, brands, and consumers. They align with legal requirements and Social Tip’s commitment to reward eligibility guidelines.

We have now added instructions to include 'ad' or '#ad' on the instructions screen when you add posts to Social Tip. This will be included on all

Guidelines for Including Ad Disclosures

To comply with posting guidelines and remain eligible for rewards:

  1. Placement: Include the 'Ad' disclosure as:

  • On-screen text, such as directly within images or videos

  • Part of the post caption

  • For Instagram grid posts and TikTok's, do not place the disclosure in the comments, as this does not fulfil the compliance requirement.

  1. Visibility: Ensure the disclosure is clear and visible to viewers without requiring additional action (e.g., clicking "More" or reading after prolonged interaction).

  2. Optional Paid Partnership Toggle: The paid partnership toggle is not required if 'Ad' is included in the content and vice versa if the paid partnership toggle is used you are not required to include 'ad'

Platform-Specific Considerations

While the broad guidelines above apply universally, certain platforms present unique challenges. For instance:

  • Instagram Stories: Posts such as Instagram Stories generally cannot be edited once posted. If the required 'Ad' disclosure is missing, the content will not be eligible for rewards. Ensure this disclosure is correctly included prior to posting future stories.

  • If you forget to include the 'Ad' disclosure, edit the post and notify the Social Tip team. For TikTok, notify the team to lift any rejection without re-syncing the post.

  • Use the text tool to overlay 'Ad' directly on the visual content of Instagram Stories to ensure compliance.

Tips for Ensuring Compliance

  • Double-check drafts: Review all content for proper disclosure placement before publishing.

  • Familiarise yourself with platform-specific limitations: Understand editing capabilities (or lack thereof) for platforms like Instagram Stories to avoid errors.

  • Follow Social Tip updates: Keep track of any changes to posting guidelines or disclosure requirements.

  • Use the text tool for Stories: Overlay 'Ad' directly on the visual content of Stories to ensure compliance. Adding 'ad' in a story caption is not eligible and must be on the screen.

  • Notify the Social Tip team after edits: Promptly inform the team after making edits to avoid delays in reward processing.

All Social Tip posts should include 'ad', we implemented this change on the 05/09/2025. If disclosures are missing or improperly placed, posts may not meet compliance standards and will be ineligible for rewards.
